Breast Examination

There is no single, definitive way to check your breasts and you don’t need any special training.  The key is to get to know what is normal for you. Get to know what your breasts feel like, what they look like and if you notice anything unusual, get it checked out by a GP.

You can check your breasts in any way that is comfortable for you – standing up, lying down, in the shower, while getting dressed, in front of the mirror (which we would recommend). The important point is to make sure you are checking the full chest area, up to and including the collarbone and under the armpit and try and check yourself at least once a month.

Becoming familiar with the normal look and feel of your breasts will help you notice any changes more easily.
